If Not Then back in action

I've been back at work with my friend Brian on our project "If Not Then"... taking the free improv approach of "Was Is", which is essentially a rock band configuration with loud, feedbacking guitars, grumbling bass and pounding drums and shrinking it down to swirling, ambient textures generated by two laptops.

We'll be playing a show March 4 at 8pm at Manhattan's ABC No Rio. If you're on my email list you'll definitely be getting a reminder. (And if you're not on my email list... why not?) Send an email to...

And you'll be getting all my gig reminders and updates.

Last week: herMajesty, this week Shannon Kennedy and Ekayani

Last week saw herMajesty performing a set of new material that will be on our next CD at Manhattan's the Annex. We played to a full house.

This week I'll be getting to work producing, engineering and performing on a batch of tunes by singer songwriter Shannon Kennedy.

Also, later this week, on Saturday, I'll be performing with Ekayani and the Healing Band at the Bitter End at 9pm. This show will be round two of the Emergenza battle of the bands contest to see who gets to fly out to Germany to play a big music festival out there. So come and show your support as the audience determines who moves on to round three!

Laszlo Update

With any luck at all, the original Laszlo CD, recorded in 1998-1999 and remixed by Mike Davis and remastered by dbPlus in 2006 will be out soon. We're tying up a few loose ends but the hard work has been done. Check back here for updates as I will certainly be posting when it is available to buy!

New J-rom Tracks and the Importance of Pulse

I've been obsessing a lot lately over the importance of pulse in music. From listening to Steve Reich's pulse-related work (think Music for Eighteen Musicians) to playing the eigth-note driven music of herMajesty my mind has been pre-occupied with this facet of music.

An along this same topic is my return to working on electronic music under the J-rom moniker. Three new songs now chart out some new territory for this project that I hope will be enjoyed...
